Women's Introductory Self Defense Workshop

Join instructors Courtney Rice and Kaja Sadowski for a hands-on, two-day introduction to the core elements of self defense, including:
  • the legal context of self defense in Canada
  • observation and avoidance of dangerous situations and people
  • decision-making under stress
  • de-escalation
  • physical intervention
  • aftercare
The second day of the workshop will include optional realistic scenarios, which will simulate real-life situations in a controlled environment, and allow students to get a realistic sense of how they operate under significant stress. Participation in these scenarios is not mandatory, and students can still get a lot out of observation and debriefing if they choose not to participate in this course component. All of our instructors have experience working with students who have experienced violence and/or trauma, and we can help you navigate potential triggers and related challenges during the course.

Attendance is open to all women, and to non-binary students who are comfortable in a space that centres women's experiences and socialization as they relate to violence. No prior experience is necessary.

Pricing is offered on a sliding scale. Please pay the rate that makes sense for you. Financial assistance is available to students for whom our "accessible" rate is not accessible enough.
